RE: 6 evil challenges that face women in tech

This is a reply to a post on some evil challenges that face women in tech by MIR

I just have a few (cough) things to say:

- typing away code ( or chat or tweets ) and well using your brain…
Please do not mix coding and chatting/tweeting in an expression describing both as "using your brain" :-P

- what is so hard in that or so different than let us say – being a teacher , engineer or doctor
The difference is that being a teacher, engineer or doctor is a job or a profession. Meaning after work you're back with your girlfriends doing all the girly things you want to do. While being a techy is a not a job, it's a way of life. You won't find it interesting anymore to discuss nail color or which shoes matches your hair and you won't find many girls willing (I'm not saying capable) to take part in a conversation about switching your farm from Xeon to i7...

Sooner or later you'll stop being invited to hanging out with the girls (cause you're too boring) or polish your nails (simply because you don't have nails, who can type with an inch long fingernail?!) which eventually will lead you to point 5 (too much guys company will kill you) because:

A - Girls grew up with barbies, ponies, makeup kits, hairdresser and beauty saloons visits with their moms(aunts, grandmas:P...) ==> the chances are scarce for a girl being introduced to geeky stuff in her childhood ==> you won't find many girls in your neighborhood that "speak Klingon".
B - Guys grew up with star{trek, wars}, cable tv, computers, explosives (aka fireworks), electronics... basically the raw ingredients for tech savvy ==> guy geeks/techys are more abundant.

- 1 - the skirt problem
The skirt problem is not a tech industry problem. I don't see (in real life and not some fantasy X-Rated movies) engineers doing field work wearing skirts and high heels, nor doctors, nor racing car drivers, nor bikers, nor cops, nor while doing sports... So are you saying that girls should not do all of that because wearing a skirt is not relaxing or suitable for the job? I disagree with that!

- 2 - bbbrrrrr syndrome
Same applies to guys. Solution, keep a jacket at the office, wear it when you're in, lose it when you're out!

- 3 - beauty sleeps
Who needs to sleep? WoW monsters do not sleep, its up to you to slay them all!!

- 4 - focus-less clients
Back to "the skirt problem", plus men are pigs... It's their way to give compliments:-P Deal with it!

- 6 - juicy offers in less geeky dept.
Management makes more cash than tech. The more u advance in your job, the less tech details you'll be involved in and the more talk you'll do. Sooner or later we'll all be there, making room for younger geeks.

I personally welcome and encourage girls to join the tech world, I'm sick of sausage parties!
